A PLAY OF TRANSPOSITION
Beyond the gaze, the transposition of periods also embodies ANNABELLE's artistic DNA. While drawing inspiration from the aesthetic codes of the Renaissance, such as black backgrounds, lace, velvet, and jewelry typical of the 16th century, ANNABELLE blends eras with subjects that reflect hyper-contemporary beauty standards. She thus creates a timeless, mysterious, and independent female figure, a modern warrior draped in lace, whose appearance recalls that of social media celebrities in a Renaissance setting.
This work is titled Thalie, a rare name of Greek origin meaning "to blossom" or "to bloom," evoking a gentle person yet with strong emotional intensity. Thalie is the flowering of the soul, in the intensity of her grief. She is heartbroken but remains dignified. We can see in her gaze the incomprehension due to the betrayal, but the implacable will to overcome her pain.
